PAW Graphics under MVS

With PAW/MVS you can use basically three graphics destinations:

  1. GDDM graphics (Workstation type 1)

needs a terminal or terminal emulation with graphics capabilities, such as the 3179, 3279 and such like, or the x3270 emulator on the RS/6000. This mode of operation is similar to VTxxx graphics on VMS.

  2. 5080 graphics (Workstation type 2)

needs an alphanumerical terminal for command input and a 5080 or SpectraGraphics monitor for graphics output (device separation). Such devices are available only in the computer centre's graphics room.

  3. X11 graphics

needs a workstation or X-terminal which can act as an X-Server. PAWFOPI has to be linked with the HIGZX11 graphic modules and your X-Server machine must allow other nodes to pop up their graphic window:

To run a general PAW as delivered from CERN just type one of the TSO-commands

PAW # for GDDM and 5080 graphics
   PAW X11 # for X11 graphics
If you want to work with your private programs and PAWFOPI there is a utility to generate all PDSs (directories) you will probably need, e.g.
inifopi 9102 # for experiment Feb 91
(issued once only) will generate paw9102.fort, paw9102.cntl, ... .
