MVS disk MVS Tape

 

On MVS only 3480 cartridges and 1/2 inch tapes are supported directly. There are a couple of GSI utilities to support tape/cartridge handling under ISPF G.T.

• Reading tapes

  You can read No-Label (NL), IBM standard label (SL) and ANSI (level 3) label (AL) tapes and cartridges. AL tapes are usually written by VMS and the ULTRIX ltf facility. For AL tapes you can specify automatic conversion from ASCII to EBCDIC. Note that this is useful only for pure text files !

• Writing tapes

  You can write NL and SL tapes. AL tapes are supported for text files only (this is the level 3 standard).
